Servercrash und Drupal Upgrade

Da will man Samstags-Nachmittags einfach nur eben schnell die Emails abrufen aber aus irgendeinem Grund fragt Thunderbird nach dem (eigentlich gespeicherten) Passwort. Komisch. Auch eine neue Eingabe des Passworts bringt nichts und bei genauerem Hinsehen stellt sich heraus, dass der IMAP-Server gar nicht zu erreichen ist. Ein Versuch die Webseite zu Laden schlägt auch fehl und man beginnt Böses zu ahnen... Flux die Recovery-Console angeworfen und siehe da: der Server hat ein Problem mit der Festplatte. Leider bringen weder der erzwungene Reboot noch ein versuchter Reboot des Rettungsystems die gewünschte Lösung, so dass man nach diversen Anrufe bei der Strato-Hotline Montags mittags einen niegelnagelneuen Server mit frischer Debian-Installation im dunklen Rechenzentrum stehen hat. Ähm, wie alt ist eigentlich das letzte Backup?

Diverse Abende später steht dann der Mailserver wieder, das Backup ist eingespielt und man hat nur ein paar Monate emails verloren. Da kann man doch eigentlich auch direkt mal das lange herausgezögerte Upgrade von Drupal starten. Mittlerweile sind ja auch alle benötigten Module für Drupal 6 erschienen so dass eigentlich nichts mehr schief gehen kann. Eigentlich. Da ich bei der Installation an einigen Stellen hängen geblieben bin und Ewigkeiten im Netz nach Information gesucht habe hier eine kleine Auflistung an Symptomen und wie man das Problem beheben kann. Hoffentlich hilft das dem ein oder anderen wenn er oder sie in der gleichen Situation steckt. (Für unsere Internationalen Seitenbesucher hab ich das Ganze mal auf Englisch hingekritzelt...)

Ach ja, sollte Euch noch etwas an der Seite auffallen was nicht so recht funktioniert schickt mir doch bitte eine kurze Nachricht.

Some issues I encountered during the upgrade from Drupal 5 to Drupal 6 and how they can be solved:

Issue: After restoring the Drupal backup (files and database) the site is back up again but every click on a link just loops back to the homepage.
Cause: You have clean URLs activated in your Drupal installation and your fresh Apache installation does not have mod_rewrite activated. Turn on mod_rewrite via a2enmod rewrite and don't forget to reload your Apache!

Issue: All your image nodes are present after the upgrade to Drupal 6 and all settings (taxonomy tags, etc.) seem to display just fine only your images do not show at all.
Cause: In your Drupal 5 Installation you were using an old version of the image module. revert back to the D5 installation, upgrade the image module to 1.7 or higher and then perform another upgrade to D6. (Note: you could probably also upgrade the image tables to the new version directly but I didn't want to reverse-engineer the tables first...)

Issue: After the upgrade to Drupal 6 you see the navigation menu block but you can not configure it under "Site-Building/Menus". There is simply no menu displayed on the admin page.
Cause: The DB upgrade script did not populate the table menu_custom properly. Just execute "insert into menu_custom (menu_name, title, description) values ('navigation', Navigation','Just another description');" via your DB command line and the menu should be visible. The same helps for the primary and secondary Links (use "primary-links" and "secondary-links" for the menu_name column, the rest can be set to your liking).

Issue: Acidfree Mass Import does not work. When you try to upload images you just loop back to the frontpage after a few seconds.
Cause: The acidfree-6.x-1.x-dev.tar.gz package seems to be broken. You can use the patched version under http://drupal.org/node/371424 to make it work again. Please note that the patch and the broken version have the same version number and that "import local files" is still broken.
